Long time I ate in one. But not that longer than Shakeys. I remember Greenwich had this promo of a pizza eat all you can at Raintree Mall. Pizza is one of my favorite crave so when I heard about a buffet, I had to try it. Anyway, that’s not the point of this post. As we always ramble how miniscule food servings have come to be, I just abhor it when you pay that much only to find out your food serving so tiny it’s good for a 3 year old kid while you look at their posters and see that their lasagna’s so thick while yours barely makes half of it. I hate the fact that their posters are the same old posters of long ago while they serve you shrunken food. That’s highway robbery to me. All establishments should be ordered to change their visual displays in order not to mislead the public. Whenever I get discouraged with the food served to me, I always feel I’ve been robbed. How hard it is to earn your salary, you want to reward yourself come payday, only to be served shrunken food.

These were what we ordered at Greenwich SM Cebu:

Supreme Lasagna - I chose this because I saw in the poster that it is thick only to find out the opposite when it was served.

Tapa-terrific - Yes! Absolutely terrific. My girlfriend and I finished eating my lasagna and her tapa order didn’t even arrive. I had to go to the counter, wait for 4 minutes till the tapa order was served. Man, their tapa gets cooked long like pizza. And there was nothing special with it. Just plain rice with tapa, not even any side dish at all. Simply boring.

I learned my lesson here …

I’m not going to explain what a money exchanger is but actually rate how the people who work there are (those that I called up). Lately I’ve been on a money exchanger inquiry spree asking how much they are selling their Singaporean Dollars. The fact that everything is soaring (hell who knows, even sex rates are going up for all we know), I have scoured the most famous money exchangers in Cebu that my friends had recommended to me. I finally got to purchase some SGD this afternoon so my search had ended and these are what I can say to the following people who work at the following money exchangers.

Drop-By Foreign Exchange - located in Fuente Osmena inside the entrance beside Shakeys. I remember quite well there are two girls who work there alternately. One was so-so, the other one was accommodating. Didn’t ask for her name though but she sounds a good employee, respects potential customers even through the phone (since I kept on calling them rather than going to their office to inquire).

Alco Money Exchanger - located near the Forever Living Office in Raintree Mall in Ramos. When I called them, it was ok. The female who answered helped me out with my inquiries

Pearl Money Exchanger - the girl who answered my call was polite and really accommodated me.

Alcor Money Exchanger - correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the female said Alco so when I called Alco (in Raintree Mall), they said it’s Alcor and they’re not the same. By far, this was the worst establishment in treating customers. This was how the conversation went … (in bisaya but I’ll translate it in english) …

Me: Hi, may I know what name this money exchanger is?

Assh*le old hag bitch: Why?!

Me: I’m going to buy some dollars!!! That’s why I want to know!!!

Assh*le old hag bitch: … kept quiet …

So that was how it went. The nerve of that old hag. She didn’t seem to want to tell me the name of the money exchanger she’s working in. She hiding something? Like they’re selling fake bills? That was one bad customer treating attitude she showed to me. Hey, I had to raise my voice too. I started with even a courteous voice and what did I get??? Like I was at fault or something.

AGPC Money Exchanger - there are two branches of these in Ayala Center Cebu. One is near the rotunda behind bo’s coffee shop and the other one is in the Entertainment Center. When I called them up, I found out their selling rate for the SGD (Singaporean Dollar) was 32.90 pesos. I asked again to confirm that if I arrived in the mall, would the rate change? The girl said no. So off I went. I had to even walk to the other BDO Branch across the mall because the ATM of the BDO in the mall’s vicinity was out of service (typical Equitable habit). Plus, I maxed out so I had to use another bank’s ATM to be able to get the remaining amount that I need to buy some SGD. When I got to the money changer, I was surprised when the girl gave me a different amount. It rose to 33.90!!! I got pissed when I saw the amount because it wasn’t what we talked about. I told her that she told me it was 32.90. Worse, she got upset that I blamed her for it and told me that her manager was wrong about it. Good Move there! This is money we’re talking about, there’s no room for mistakes. They totally conned me on this. The other girl who was actually tending to me was better because she just kept mum and didn’t act upset or anything. I had no choice but to purchase what’s worth of what I brought because I don’t want to bring my money outside worrying that some goon might rob me (simbako!).

Been a long since since I’ve eaten at Shakeys ever since Pizza Hut popped out of the scene a long time ago. Back when I was a kid I used to like thick crust pizzas because they’re big. Now, I barely care about extra crusts anymore. I only care about the toppings that come with it. If you come across eat all you can pizza promos, you should do away with the thick crusts as those are what will make you full right away. Last night I had the sudden craving for pizza so I told my girlfriend we dine at Shakeys because I just felt like having some pizza. Besides, I thought it was time to check out the taste again because I think that Pizza Hut’s gone boring for me, I needed something new this time for a change. We ordered their famous Manager’s Choice (Large) and some Mojos. Even with prices skyrocketing these days, I didn’t expect their pizzas would cost so much. Ok, I thought to myself, let’s wait and see what their pizza looks like now. Mojos was the first to be served since they’re just potatoes. My dad loves their Mojos very much and yes, they do taste good. I had the surprise of my life last night though. Their Mojos should be called Mojoles! There were lots of them with barely nothing inside. I paid 70 pesos for air? Man, I called them Mojoles because they’re Mojos with holes inside, as in nothing. They were like potato skins multiplied by 10 and that’s it! Mojos for you :P. When their Manager’s Choice pizza was served, I was even more disappointed. I have come to appreciate Da Vinci’s Pizza now because of last night’s experience. I thought having a very thin crust like Da Vinci’s is not worth to be almost 200 pesos or more. But with Shakeys Manager’s Choice last night, their pizza was even smaller than Da Vinci’s, at 272 pesos. It was kind of dry too, like it’s been cooked since morning and just reheated to be served to customers. I can’t be sure if they indeed kept the comment form they had me fill up last night but I gave them a 5/10 for the food served. Although service was alright, the most important for me was the food because that was what I went to in the first place right? Am I going back there? Yes? No? Maybe? Not a chance! I’m sticking to Da Vinci’s now.

For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover. In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe box and took it to his wife’s bedside.

She agreed that it was time that he should know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000.
The little old man was so moved; he had to fight back tears. Only two precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry with him two times in all those years of living and loving. He almost burst with happiness.

“Honey,” he said, “that explains the doll, but what about all of this money? Where did it come from?” Oh,” she said, “that’s the money I made from selling the dolls.”

What’s this? Some sort of symbol? Naaah, it’s actually the route number of jeepneys here in Cebu that caters the Lahug-Ayala-SM route. It’s very convenient for me because I don’t have to go to Ayala and line up in their hot, humid terminal going to SM whereas I can just stop over at SSS and ride the 04L jeepneys going to SM right away. Just this week, their routes were changed. Now every time I wish to go to SM, I would have to go to Ayala first and line up in their terminal. Aside from the fact that it’s very hot and humid as the jeepneys all line up beside each other and when you’re inside you get not much air from the outside as all other passengers are cramped up inside waiting for it to be full (whew this is a pretty long sentence), other irritants are there as well like people (especially the driver!) smoking. It’s even worse if it’s not a jeepney you would be riding in but a multicab. Those kind should be banned and dismantled. They’re just a waste of space on the road. Plus, you really can’t choose which you will ride on because if it’s a multicab that’s on queue, and you wanted a jeepney, then you would have to wait for the multicab to become full and wait till a jeepney has its turn. At least with the 04L route, even if there are lots of multicabs with that route, there are many jeepneys around as well. I recently asked a hmmm, he probably was a traffic enforcer under SM’s employment, asked him why the 04L’s route was changed. He said this was to ease traffic. Wow! Did they even think how big of an inconvenience this would have to people? The higher ups can easily recommend and suggest this so called solution because they have their own cars and they’re rich. They should ride jeepneys like us so they can experience the long ride home. If there’d be no 04L jeepney that would cheat its route in the evening, then people would be forced to ride the long way to their destination instead of let’s say, riding the short route going from SM to I.T. Park. This is just plain irritating …

Last night, I passed by again and checked if there were any buzzers flying around. On the side window, I did see somewhat like a fruit-fly landing on one of their bread. Ok, so it was small I said to myself, it won’t hurt I guess. I then went inside to check on their transparent tables where their other bread were placed. I checked out each of them to see if there was any cover that would protect them from any buzzers. The moment I was passing one of their tables, a large fly came buzzing around. It didn’t exactly land on the bread, just on top of the table but I didn’t want to wait and see for myself when it will do. Their bread do look delicious. But hey, maybe it’s that added something that the buzzers have that makes their bread taste delicious, ha ha ha!

Whereas the fly would appear during the day. My thinking back then was that mosquitoes and flies are the same. Since I see flies all the time during the day, they would mutate and become mosquitors at night to feed and suck blood whenever they can. It took me a few more years till I finally saw a mosquito during the day and I wondered, did this mosquito forget to turn into a fly? Perhaps it was still half awake. The thinking of a child … hahaha. I laugh at myself when I reminisce about that.

My girlfriend and I did try some of their bread and they were good. What bothered me was when one time I passed by their store and saw a fly landing and flying over a group set of bread near the side window. Ick, if ever you buy from them, better check that the items are either covered with plastic or placed in a container that’s closed. Otherwise, you’d never know if something already has contaminated them. What’s a fly you say? If you had no idea about it, it’s all good. But once you would see a fly over them, fly-hopping around, who would like to eat them? Just the thought of it gives me icky feelings. There was also one case where my friend saw a baker who was fixing dough and it fell to the floor. He just calmly picked it up, continued fixing it and well.. you know the rest… Even though it’s going to be baked, would you want to eat it knowing that it fell on the floor and who knows what vermins had been crawling there?
