Just finished watching this kiddie movie and I would have to say it is not bad. Kids will definitely enjoy this movie. Dwayne Johnson a.k.a. The Rock is Derek Thompson who becomes a tooth fairy after discouraging a kid’s hope that tooth fairies do not exist. Derek is also a hard-charging minor league hockey player […]
Oh no! Oh yes! Yes. I do watch these kind of cartoon movies. (From IMDB’s summary) A modern day retelling of the classic story The Frog Prince. The Princess and the Frog finds the lives of arrogant, carefree Prince Naveen and hardworking waitress Tiana crossing paths.
Prince Naveen is transformed into a frog by a conniving voodoo magician and Tiana, following suit, upon kissing the amphibian royalty. With the help of a trumpet-playing alligator, a Cajun firefly, and an old blind lady who lives in a boat in a tree, Naveen and Tiana must race to break the spell and fulfill their dreams.
The movie is okay. This is Disney’s first cartoon movie where a black girl is the lead character. I am sure kids would love this if they watch it. In my case, I guess these kind of movies have grown on me. CGI is now my cup of tea. I kept on skipping parts when they were singing, typical Disney style.
The plot did surprise me. I thought it is the same princess kiss frog and frog turns into a prince plot but no, this one is a little different. Both of them became frogs after Tiana kissed the frog prince. Seems a princess has to kiss the frog in order for the curse to be broken. Good movie by Disney but really did not appeal that much to me.
If you watched Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths in DVD, there is an extra animated short featuring The Spectre. The Spectre focuses on a detective story with an ethereal twist, featuring the otherworldly character originally introduced by DC Comics in 1940.
While it was good to see the Spectre animated, I was disappointed. It does not feature the enemies that you see in Justice League. The Spectre was only up against humans, criminals to be exact. So it was not really challenging. It would have been nice to see him go up against supernatural enemies.
Good thing this was just a short. If this was a long movie, it would have been utterly boring and predictable. And the whole episode was too spooky, it felt like I was watching an animated vampire story. Well, I hope the next DC animated short featuring Jonah Hex will be better.
