The Proposal

the_proposalAn ok movie I guess but so fictitious. Sandra Bullock’s character, Margaret Tate is the executive editor in chief of a book publishing company, Colden Books, who forces her assistant Andrew Paxton played by Ryan Reynolds to marry her in order to avoid being deported to Canada. He accepts but only under the condition that he is promoted to the position of editor. When the government investigates, it is by chance that Andrew also had plans to spend the weekend at his hometown because it is also his grandmother’s birthday. So Margaret used the opportunity to spend the weekend with Andrew as lovers in order to convince the government investigator. The movie is typical from other movies. They start to fall in love as they spend more and more time together (with Margaret’s attitude and character, it was utterly impossible for Andrew to fall in love). In the end, they both fall in love and during the wedding, Margaret decides she cannot do this to Andrew and confesses the business arrangement in front of everyone, including the immigration officer handling their case. After this is the usual scene of man going after the woman to confess one’s love again and a happy ending follows.

I was pretty curious with this movie when I read in an online article that Sandra Bullock is naked here. After watching it, I was like, that was their “naked”? She was never naked in that movie. She covered her private parts, that is not naked. Anyway, I am surprised that it is doing well in the box office even until now. Funny movie? Well, sort of. The plot is common so I was not really thinking like “hey, here is something new”. Still, I am not saying this is a bad movie. Just average.
